Snow Continues to Pile up in Mountains

Snow Continues to Pile up in Mountains

While temperatures have remained near to above freezing in Star Valley the last several day, resulting in a slow settling of the snow pack, the higher elevations continue to pile up the snow.  As of March 4th snow depths are higher than they have been in many years and still growing.  The most recent map of the western snow pack

show much of Wyoming well above normal.

At the Willow Creek, Cottonwood Creek and Salt River  SNOTEL sites since around Feb 1st there has been a very large increase in both snow depth and water content.

Following are additional snow totals for both the Grey’s River and Teton areas.

For the next several days period of snow will continue in the higher elevations with rain and/or snow in Star Valley.  Needless to say that the Avalanche danger is very high and anyone considering traveling through the back country should check in with the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Centers  web site.
