URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RIVERTON WY
1215 PM MDT SUN OCT 2 2016

...A PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM WILL BRING SNOW TO THE WESTERN MOUNTAINS
OF WYOMING TONIGHT THROUGH EARLY TUESDAY MORNING...

.A RATHER STRONG EARLY AUTUMN PACIFIC STORM WILL BRING POTENTIALLY
HEAVY SNOW TO THE WESTERN MOUNTAINS ALONG WITH STRONG WINDS
TONIGHT...CONTINUING THROUGH EARLY TUESDAY MORNING.  SNOW LEVELS
WILL BE AROUND 8000 FEET TONIGHT...INCREASING TO 8500 FEET
MONDAY...THEN LOWERING AGAIN TO 7500 FEET MONDAY NIGHT.  STRONG
WINDS OF 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 45 MPH WILL BE POSSIBLE ON THE
PASSES AND EXPOSED RIDGES.

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO
6 AM MDT TUESDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RIVERTON HAS ISSUED A WINTER
WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT
FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 AM MDT TUESDAY.

*TIMING...SNOW WILL BECOME WIDESPREAD ABOVE 8000 FEET THIS EVENING
          WITH INCREASING WINDS. SNOW LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO RISE TO
          AROUND 8500 FEET THROUGH THE DAY MONDAY THEN LOWER TO 7500
          FEET MONDAY NIGHT.

*SNOWFALL...6 TO 12 INCHES WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS ABOVE 9000 FEET.

*WIND AND VISIBILITY...WEST TO SOUTHWEST WINDS OF 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO
          45 MPH ON THE MOUNTAIN PASSES AND EXPOSED RIDGES CAUSING
          BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WITH VISIBILITY BELOW A QUARTER MILE.

* MAIN IMPACT...HUNTERS AND CAMPERS SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR VERY ADVERSE
          WINTER WEATHER.  IT WILL BE IMPORTANT TO KEEP DRY AND HAVE
          ADEQUATE WINTER CLOTHING TO AVOID HYPOTHERMIA.

* OTHER IMPACTS...RAPIDLY LOWERING VISIBILITY MAY DISORIENT HUNTERS AND
          HIKERS.  GETTING LOST IN ADVERSE WINTER WEATHER MAY BE LIFE
          THREATENING.   TRAVELERS ON BACK ROADS HAVE AN INCREASED CHANCE
          OF GETTING STUCK IN SNOW DRIFTS AND MUDDY ROADS.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR BLOWING SNOW MEANS THAT
VISIBILITIES WILL BE SEVERELY LIMITED DUE TO STRONG WINDS BLOWING
SNOW AROUND. USE CAUTION WHEN TRAVELING, ESPECIALLY IN OPEN
AREAS. CHECK THE LATEST ROAD CONDITIONS AT WYOROAD.INFO OR BY
DIALING 5 1 1.  MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ADEQUATE WINTER CLOTHING AND STAY
DRY.  LET OTHERS KNOW OF YOUR PLANS...WHERE YOU PLAN TO GO AND WHEN YOU
PLAN TO RETURN EITHER DRIVING OR HIKING.
