Cold January Night in Star Valley

Clear skies, deep snow cover and calm winds provided ideal conditions for a very cold January night across Star Valley. The lowest observed in the valley was -24 at the Afton airport with temperatures likely near -20 in many locations along the Salt River. However the real cold air was quite shallow as evidenced by the observation at the higher elevation of Star Valley Ranch dipping only to 2 above.

The arctic cold air that spread out of Canada into the Plains and Great Lakes resulted in wind chills dropping to extreme levels this morning in that area.

However the actual minimum temperatures across central Canada in Northern Manitoba were really cold
