Star Valley July Weather Summary- Dry and Warm

Star Valley July Weather Summary- Dry and Warm

July 2022 was a very quiet month for Star Valley as precipitation was scarce and sunshine abundant. The weather pattern was such that the Pacific Storm track was well north of Wyoming as is typical for mid summer, while the Monsoon moisture that provides the best opportunity for summer storms has remained well to the south over Arizona into Southern Utah.

Here are rainfall reports around the valley for July 2022.

Smoot 5 SSE         .30

Bedford 3 SE         .30

Thayne  1 SE          .17

Nordic Ranch        .16

Afton                       .08

Star Valley Ranch .04

The graph for the Star Valley Ranch  location illustrates the drop off of precipitation for July putting the  water year total below normal.

In general all of Wyoming was dry in July with the greatest amounts near the eastern border.

Although warm sunny days dominated, nights did cool off appreciably within the dry airmass.

The time series of temperatures at Afton for the month clearly illustrates the large diurnal ranges.

Finally Palisades Reservoir levels are dropping at a similar rate to 2021 and are somewhat below normal levels.

Looking ahead to August it appears that at least for the foreseeable future(1-2) weeks the Monsoon moisture will make a visit northward to our region.

The precipitation potential increases substantially.
